Alien Deathmatch 2!!!

A sigh of relief, as the game is finally in an upload worthy state.
I’m sure there’s plenty of bugs, mounds of forgotten features, and odd little untweaked things that aren’t quite right, but what’s here is plenty enough to be counted as Release 1.

Download Alien Deathmatch 2
3Mb!!!

The game, in it’s current Release 1 state has quite a few new features from those in AD1.

Of course, the Breeds are more pronounced. Faster breeds, exploding breeds, and even breeds that drop pickups are all strewn around the world, ready to be blasted away..

Teleporters are in, and fun to run through! Step on a Green tile to be flung to another Green tile, randomly on the level! (Assuming they’re there, of course!)
Once used, all teleporters are disabled for a short while, so use them wisely.

Highlighted levels, (once you upload your highscores!) will display today’s newest level, along with yesterday’s, and the day before’s.. My guess is, if anyone’s going to playing a level, it’d be one of those!!

And, of course, the greatest new feature of them all..

Hmm….
?

And there’s an Editor!!!
Go nuts
Draw the level, fiddle with the sliders, Hit B (or click the joystick icon) to test it out, make sure you give it a name, and then save..
Next time you upload your latest highscores, the game will magically upload any new levels you have, too.. (one at a time, of course, we don’t want the server exploding!!)
Share the .lev file with a mate, and you can both play peacefully.. Or, give it time, and it’ll pop up on the daily download list, for everyone else..
Sorted!

What else?
The new stuff might be fun, but I’m sure there’s plenty more..
If you have ANY ideas, pop ‘em into the comments, and I’ll see what I can do.
This is only Release 1!

Sweet. Kick-arse game. Can’t wait to see future builds.

i have to say: fantastic work!
hope more players will discover this gem in the future and participate in hi score battles ;)

an idea for a feature: including a body counter. ;)

    Thanks guys!

I’ve left 6 blank slots in the highscore table stuff, so… Yes, Kills will probably be there, along with Time Played, and maybe Max Multiplier.. That’s all I can think of, though ;)

Feel free to upload levels whenever you wish.. Make a level, save it, then upload your scores, and the level will go with it! (You’ll see it go in the upload displayer.)

I’ll probably get some work done on the web-based stuff, tonight.. Not sure what I’ll be doing on that end, but.. I’m sure I can come up with something!
    Maybe!

I tried to promote the living shit out of this. Posted on Metafilter, Linkfilter, sent to friends on Stumbleupon.. :)

Thanks. And, indeed, it’s left a nice big spike in the visitor stats.

But, as with all things, the spike is just that. Seems that, no matter what, web folk are only interested in the “NOW!” and not the Yesterday..

seems like it stopped taking hi scores, just goes straight to main menu

I’m going to assume, then, that you’ve not yet figured out the disks.. If you’re on a level with disks, you absolutely positively have to collect them all.
As soon as you collect the last one, your highscore is saved. otherwise, nada…
Think of it as a Quest.. A Heroes Quest, if you will.. (Man, that level’s a toughy! .. Based on MB’s HeroQuest Board Game incase no-one spotted it.)

  9. jomme says:

    it was training

  10. Jayenkai says:

Well then, just be sure you’re getting a score that should actually be in the top 10 of your Local scores.. (You only get 1 score on the online chart…)

  11. Josh says:

Great game, though it might get a bit repetitive (feels like esp. with the doors it’d be great to make a story with levels and preset, challenging spawn zones) – then again, for a week that’s great! You were heavily inspired by Crimsonland, huh? I’ve beat first place on many of the levels (like HeroesQuest @1456) but my score only remains local. How can I go brag in the charts? Haha.

  12. Jayenkai says:

Click the glowing green “Get Today’s Levels” button!

  13. Josh says:

Got it. I also quite literally stumbled on an exploding breed from behind… before I was wondering, “How on earth do players in Alone Without Ammo score, and so high?!” Tricky!

  14. Josh says:

Sorry for the double-post but if you’re ever going to update this, I think it’d be really encouraging to custom levels for the editor to have a zoom feature. Concentrating on such small tiles gets quickly tedious!

  15. Jayenkai says:

If you want to attempt an easier drawing method, for little corridors and things like that, you can load up your favourite paint package, save a .png, and load it with that little “-> img” icon on the top of the editor.
    Then fiddle around with that..
Try to match the colours in the editor, (screengrab!) in your paint package, and you oughta be able to build pretty cool levels like that.

Don’t make it too big, though. I can’t remember how the game handles big images.. It either realises, and centers the image, or it crashes!!

^ Map from the classic board game, Heroquest! (Hence the naming of the Heroes Quest, level.)
