JNKPlat3D09 – Trial

OMG! It’s a Trial Edition!! WTF!? Demo! ARGH!!!

Actually, I’ve not finished yet.
But rather than skip out a week of AGameAWeek, I’ve decided to release a quick Trial edition.

In this version, you must guide Platdude through 11 classic JNKPlatDS08 levels.
They’re all in there, and they all work approximately as they did before ;)

There are, of course, odd timing issues, as I’ve not quite got everything exact.
It’s not TOO obvious in these levels, but the further through the levels you get, the more and more obvious it becomes.
Anyway, ignore all that for now, because this game’s entirely playable..

Start at level 1..
Make your way to level 11.

If you complete all the levels before the music finishes, then good for you!
If not, the game quits when the music ends, so hurry up!!!

(Fook, what a difference a time limit can make!!)

Basic rules/controls

1. Run. (Cursors)
2. Jump left (X)
3. Jump right (C)
4. Hold on (Z)
5. Get to the blue square/circle thing to complete each level.
6. RUN!

Minimum Specs : Be sure you’ve a half-decent graphics card.. An Intel Integrated Chip won’t cut it. An NVidia 6400 seems to be relatively happy.

Future : I am, of course, continuing to build up this game. Insert feature requests below.

You can Download “JNKPlat3D09 – Trial” here.

Awesome. Nice camera work! I wish I could see all the levels without it closing (but I guess that’s the point).

I’m having a hard time getting used to these controls. Never played a game with 2 jump buttons before!

  3. Jayenkai says:

As usual, I’ll add a 1 button jump method later. (See JNKPlat07/08DS)
I try not to add it right off the bat, though. People seem inexplicably scared of 2button jumping, and always turn the thing off.

To me, it’s 100 times more intuitive, and you can fly all over the level with ease.
    But.. Meh, whatever!

Yeah, once I get used to it, it feels fine. But it’s just so unusual. How about a left+spacebar = jump left (and vice versa)? Spacebar is a pretty universal jump button. Or maybe just the Up key will work.

Will this 3D version be made into a DS version?

  6. Jayenkai says:

    Honestly, no idea.

The general feeling, as seen above, and at Socoder, and at Retro Remakes is that folk just don’t like the 2 button thing.

To be honest, I’ve always felt that that was what made JNKPlat unique, and without it.. well, there’s just no point. It’s just another LodeRunner..
And there’s 100 other LodeRunners out there, and they’re all just as good as each other.

The lack of interest in JNKPlat has really got me down, and I’ve pretty much given up with this incarnation.

The initial plan was PC version -> Level editor -> Get submitted levels -> make compatible X360 + DS versions.
Now, frankly, I just can’t be arsed with it.

I’ll come up with something else.

Don’t stop making this game, please! As you, I like the two-button jumping. The way this game series works is that a traditional jump mode just doesn’t work.
I absolutely love these games! don’t stop making them!I have made about 40 custom levels on JNKPlat DS 08 including a spaceship, mansion, jetpack level, bat level, and others!
This game looks great! The 3D isn’t so bad this time around. Personally I wouldn’t care if you made a 360/DS version, but don’t give up on the PC one!

  8. Jayenkai says:

I haven’t even opened the code for about a month.
That’s a bad sign, for me.
    Demotivation sucks..

Send your DS levels over ;)

  9. Jiro25 says:

    Over To where?

  10. Jayenkai says:

If you saved the levels to the DS, grab the mylevs.lev file from inside the JNKPlat directory, then send it in an email to Jayenkai@Gmail.com

I might not release a new version, but I can at least play your levels ;)

  11. Jiro25 says:

Alright, but half of my levels are unfinished or blank.
