A few weeks ago, someone who obviously hadn’t played Centipong enough to enjoy it, decided to complain away on the comments.
Shitterwing’s complaint was as follows
“Omfg! i’d rather play Pong against Tetris (untahris), than th1s th1ngy”
Now, I don’t mind complaints, but there’s two things wrong with that complaint.
1. But… Centipong kicks ass!!!!
2. Pong vs Tetris? WTF is that!?
|
I googled, but could only find a rubbish little java game, where you desperately try to hit the ball at the same time as making tetris blocks line up. ..Nah, that can’t be how you do it! Surely there must be a better version of Pong vs Tetris. And, here’s the result. |
Play Tetris, “avoid” destruction, get what you can before you’re dead!
(. .. um, sorry Phoenix, I forgot to add Block-Hitting in! Maybe next time!)
You can Download Tetripong Here, smash!!!
No online highscores. I was going to, but didn’t want to have 250+different boards!!
If anyone would like to contribute anything towards a second release, feel free to dump your bits below..
Gfx blocks, see internal files, follow suit.
Music, mod/xm/it/etc please!
AGAW stuff : 2 weeks, 2 games.. Woot!

BETTER? there was a keyword: Untahris! Untahris.sourceforge.net – different players play modified versions of different games (tetris against vertical pad). so, Th1s !s an 3p1c f41l

This is more of TetAsteroids, than TetriPong.

Second release? Make the pad on the left that rejects the ball – make player to be able to select between AI or real opponent (mouse). Possibly, add some PacAttack elements? (unlike normal bricks, pacmonsters’ groups die if one of the monsters in the group is hit. (Make the BlockWorld a feature that can be toggled on title screen.

I try not to bother doing anything 2 player anymore, and haven’t for a while.
If you make it AI, then you spend ages bobbing about with AI.
If you make it “Just a Mate” then you kill the point of playing alone.
Only if I know I can do the AI do I bother adding a multiplayer AI player into the mix. Otherwise it’d be a disaster, like Counters Strike was.
So, yeah, 1 player, simple stuff, get a good game working, that’s enough.
Oh yeah, and the TetriPong name was used so it fits in with CentiPong. CentiPong is more CentiArkanoid, but that sounds stupid. In fact, so does TetAsteroids.. TetriPong and CentiPong are nice names that do the trick!

Bobbing with AI? just make the brick’s middle always be on the ball’s middle – i guess that’s not even AI, just a few lines of geometry/physics code.

Bunch of freebies: http://ainc.de – in “games”, find Tsunami2010 and links to MOD packs for it).
Maybe, make “astronaut” a toggled feature in next release? “I just made a tetris, otherwise Tetriller would be good”, as you said – so why not make one Tetris game with Pong balls, Climbers and some other extras under this name?
Maybe… JnkPong? (platdude must survive on a level, being destroyed by balls – AI-driven or real opponent.

Well, sure in this case it’s easy enough. But you’re very limited.
On the one hand, the AI would just be completely worthless. Why have a worthless bat moving around, when the balls already bouncing about, anyway!?
On the other hand, a real player. .. Do you really want to sit playing “bounce the ball around” whilst the other guy’s sitting playing tetris?
Personally, that doesn’t sound exciting!
JNKPong would be Star Trek Pong, and Platdude + Balls would be Pang.
But yeah, Platdude in Tetris would work just as well. Again, though. I’m trying to do lots of different games, here.. or at least, not start repeating myself on week 3 (Even if it is year 2!!)
So.. Perhaps later.
It’s in the bag, but the bag of repetitiveness is still well and truly sealed!

No version for us mac users

‘fraid not. I’m using Blitz3D, and that’s Win only.
If I used BlitzMax, I could conceivably get Mac versions up and running, but A) I’d need a Mac, and B) there’d be a bunch of obstacles to overcome, mostly system-spec related.
Issue B would be simple enough to overcome if I had time, but AGameAWeek doesn’t really give you those kinds of luxuries.
..
As for issue A..
Feel free to send me a mac

If your mac is good enough to emulate a win98 pc, go get DosBox and emulate Win98, run Tetripong with it.

hi ! the game is great, but is it normal I can’t flip the tiles ? that’s way harder than a regular tetris !
Jayenkai says:

Flip!?!
You don’t FLIP a tile in tetris!?!
WTF cheaty version of tetris are you playing!?!
Or is this the crapola new-age tetris, where they’ve taken a fantastic game, and added every possible cheat-method into the game, so that it becomes playable by a 2 year old?
Euww. Flip!?!
The whole point of half the shapes is that they’re the wrong way around. If you could just flip them, that’d kill the frustration from getting the one you need but, “ARGH!! It’s the wrong way around!”
Do yourself a favour, grab a gameboy emulator, good old black+white tetris, sit down for a few hours, and have some classic tetris fun.

I tried to run Tetripong, but I keep getting an error that it couldn’t set up the 3D scene. Other games downloaded from this site work fine. Here’s the debug.txt file contents, in case that’s helpful to you:

How odd, especially with other games working fine.
Hmm.
Currently playing with this week’s game, but I’ll have a look at Tetripong in a couple of days for you.
If I find anything obvious that could be causing it, I’ll let you know.
Off the top of my head, it’s probably a 32-bit-color issue. For a while, I tried to make everything run in 32-bit, but some gfx cards *still* don’t support that!! Better to run in 16 or 24, rather than 32, apparently.
Go figure.
All these PCs, with all their power, and the simple little things still flummox them!

[...] Tetripong is an interesting mix between Tetris and Pong. It basically plays like Tetris with the exception that a blocky ball floats around that is trying to destroy your creation… Sometimes the ball is helpful to you and sometimes not.
