Please erase from your memory any images you may have seen about a grid with a maze in it.
-=-=-
This is now the goal for Monday, and so far it's kinda bland and repetitive, but in a way that feels like there's good stuff I can add to it, as opposed to that bland maze thing where I couldn't think of any interesting gameplay mechanics for it.
So this is what we're aiming for, then.
Fly the ship through the gates, rinse, repeat.
I'll add pickups and such to keep things entertaining.
It's actually kinda fun to play as-is, but.. You know.. Everything could be made more entertaining if you put your mind to it.
.. Right?!
So, forget about the grid thing. You never saw that. It never happened.
I should probably start thinking about a Shoebox game, next.
Hmmm..
[verse]
Who knows what lies beyond the portal.
Something strange or something normal.
Wormholes, teleports, just a door.
We'll see if there is something more.
Together
[chorus]
Looking through the gate to things that lie beyond (on the other side)
Peering into space behind the magical doorway (What could it be)
Can you see the landscape over the horizon, bursting like a rainbow out of a prism,
Take my hand and we'll journey through. And see what's on the other side (other side)
[break]
[verse]
We target hard, and blast our engine.
Throttle up, with thrusters raging
A tunnel, a vortex or a black hole.
We'll try to get in there somehow.
Forever
[chorus]
Looking through the gate to things that lie beyond (on the other side)
Peering into space behind the magical doorway (What could it be)
Can you see the landscape over the horizon, bursting like a rainbow out of a prism,
Take my hand and we'll journey through. And see what's on the other side (other side)
[break]
[bridge]
What endless thrill will lie behind those gates. (behind the gates)
Will we be taken through to another place. (another place)
Will there be monsters, beasts and boss attacks. (boss attacks)
Behind and round and around my face. (twirling the camera again.)
[chorus]
Looking through the gate to things that lie beyond (on the other side)
Peering into space behind the magical doorway (What could it be)
Can you see the landscape through the horizon, bursting like a rainbow through a prism,
Take my hand and we'll journey through. And see what's on the other side (other side)
[break]
[rapped]
All our thrusters are disabled. Weapons down, and shield unstable.
Something's wrong with our transportors. And my drink's spilt on the floor.
It seems the anti-grav's still working, But the ship is still full Red Alerting
Something's wrong, my chair is cracked. Come about, and brace for impact.
[break]
[chorus]
Looking through the gate to things that lie beyond (on the other side)
Peering into space behind the magical doorway (What could it be)
Can you see the landscape over the horizon, bursting like a rainbow out of a prism,
Take my hand and we'll journey through. And see what's on the other side (other side)
Int. Dave's Games and ScrunchCakes - Shop Floor
[Dave is arranging ScrunchToys on the counter while Green restocks shelves]
Green: No church again, this week?
Dave: No, I think the Vicar's stopped doing the weekly Fete thing for the year.
Green: Aw, that's a shame. [cheekily grinning] It was nice to be rid of you for one day out of the week.
Dave: It's kewlykewly. More time to work on my projects!
Green: Oh goody.
Dave: Andy's coming in later, he'll appreciate the ScrunchToy.
Green: Andy barely tolerates you on a good day. Why's he coming in?
Dave: Something about wanting us to take a cookie or something. Not sure.
Green: Hmm.
Dave: I think him and Joe are trying to make a ScrunchCake rival.
Green: They don't have the level of insanity that you do.
Dave: True, true.
[Andy enters the shop]
Andy: Hey gang. How's things?
[Dave squeezes one of the ScrunchToys]
ScrunchToy: [in Dave's voice] The sausage is the Scrunchy Surprise!
Andy: [taken aback] And a good day to you, mister square plastic blob.
Dave: It's a ScrunchToy! Our latest marketing master-plan.
ScrunchToy: [in Dave's voice] The Vanilla is the Winna.
Dave: I couldn't find a rhyme for Purple.
Andy: Trouble?
[Andy plops a suitcase on the counter]
Andy: Speaking of chaotic snacks that may or may not kill you.
Dave: Hey..!
Andy: [Opening suitcase] Does anybody want to try a spicy lentil cookidori?
Green: Cookidori?
Andy: I dunno, Joe came up with that name. It's supposed to be a blend of Cookie and Tandori. I'm not keen on it, myself.
Green: What do they taste of?
Dave: [munching on a cookidori] Some kind of weird bean soup, with oatiness.
Andy: Spicy, though, right?
Dave: Tastes like someone had an accident with a bowl of porridge and some baked beans.
Andy: That's not entirely inaccurate.
Green: I thought you didn't like spice, Dave?
Dave: I don't. And I don't really like this either. It really is quite nasty, Andy.
Andy: Oh, gee. Thanks, Dave. What's your thoughts, Greenie?
Green: [mid-munch] Mmmmm..
Andy: Alrighty!! The Greenie seal of approval.
